LL-37 is the only known member of the cathelicidin family of antimicrobial peptides in humans, processed from the hCAP-18 precursor protein. It is a 37-amino acid cationic peptide with broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity against bacteria, fungi, and enveloped viruses — acting by disrupting microbial membranes.

Beyond its antimicrobial properties, LL-37 has been studied for its roles in wound healing, immunomodulation, angiogenesis, and cancer biology. It also activates toll-like receptor signaling and promotes epithelial repair.
